Abysmal by US standards, Okay by ours

An interesting video: (From Calculated Risk) Such a house should be a steal for us in India - we're so used to buying houses without cabinets, without any woodwork whatsoever, and obviously, no appliances. We're kinda grateful to the builder if he gave us plumbing in working condition.

Our housing standards have got to go up. They seem to have, in Delhi; most other places they just give you a dump with walls.

Hi Deepak,

Still in India, educated people (most of them NRIs) are paying millions for such houses/flats without basic facilities. I have seen flats with more than 10 millions rupees in price (for 3/4 BHK flat) and without having intercom or backup generator facilities in out modern India with power cuts. I do not know how they get such vast amount of money.
Nice.
Yes, I agree, people are paying hefty amount just to be in "home owner" category. People keep paying interest part of their loan for years.
People see very nice looking sample flat, fall in love with colors, imagine their sweet home would be just alike, and end up getting different in the end. Also by the time building completes, it starts developing cracks.

Age of older houses used to be decades with negligible maintenance, not sure how far current constructions can match that.
